Resize images to the dimensions your layout actually needs
Image dimensions affect more than file size. The wrong width or height can leave an upload looking stretched, make a product photo crop awkwardly, or slow down a page with pixels that are never displayed. Resizing makes a new image at the dimensions you choose, which is different from merely making the existing file smaller.
This browser-based resizer lets you enter a width and height, keep the original proportions locked when needed, select JPG, PNG, or WebP for export, and adjust quality for formats where that setting applies. It is useful for a one-off social post, a website image, a profile picture, or any workflow that calls for exact pixel dimensions.

Use proportions to avoid distorted images
An image has an aspect ratio: the relationship between its width and height. A 1600 × 900 image is 16:9; a 1200 × 1200 image is square. When an image is resized to a new ratio without cropping, people and objects become wider or taller than they should be. Keeping the aspect ratio locked preserves the image’s shape while you scale it down or up.
If a platform requires a different ratio, cropping is usually preferable to stretching. This resizer changes the whole image’s dimensions; it does not choose which edges to crop. Decide whether the platform can crop automatically or prepare a separately cropped source before setting final dimensions.

- Wide website banner: keep the image’s proportions when possible, then let the website crop responsibly if it supports focal points.
- Email or listing image: use the maximum display width, not the much larger dimensions from a camera or stock download.
Format and quality work together
Export format determines how the new pixels are stored. JPG is commonly efficient for photographs but does not preserve transparency. PNG preserves transparency and sharp graphic edges but can be substantially larger for detailed images. WebP can often provide smaller web-friendly files, but you should verify compatibility with the site, email system, or app that will receive it.
The quality control applies to JPG and WebP output. Lower values make smaller files but can soften fine texture and introduce visible artifacts. PNG is lossless in this workflow, so the quality setting does not meaningfully reduce a PNG export. If file size remains too high, lower the dimensions first or use the image compressor after resizing.
Avoid enlarging a small original
Making an image larger creates additional pixels, but it cannot invent detail that was not present in the original. A small icon enlarged for a poster can look soft or blocky even when the dimensions technically meet the requirement. Start with the highest-quality original available and reduce it for delivery rather than repeatedly enlarging a small downloaded copy.
Save the original separately. A resized export is purpose-built for one context, such as a 1200-pixel blog image or a 400-pixel listing thumbnail. Keeping the original avoids loss from repeatedly editing an already downsized version when another size is needed later.

Will resizing reduce image quality?
Reducing dimensions is normally safe for a smaller display area. Enlarging can make an image look softer because it must create pixels that were not in the original. JPG and WebP quality settings can also affect appearance.
